About Me
building a personal greenhouse

It has always been a dream of mine to have a greenhouse that I could use to grow my own produce during the winter. I love garden fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupes and a variety of other produce and it made me sad when I had to quit gardening for the season. I decided that it was time for me to invest in having a greenhouse built in my backyard so that I could continue to grow throughout the entire year. Learn all about the selection of the glass and how it needs to be cared for right here on my blog.

Steps To Take After Having A New Windshield Installed

Lee Moerman

While some small chips in a windshield can be repaired, if you have one or more large cracks in the glass you will most likely need to have a new windshield installed on your vehicle. In most cases, a new windshield can be installed in a timely manner, but it is important for you to know what to do in the days following your new windshield installation. Continue reading to learn more about what steps to take after having a windshield installed on your automobile.

Don't Drive Right Away

After a windshield is installed, it is not wise to drive right away, since the adhesive used to keep the windshield in place needs time to dry. If you are having your windshield installed at an auto glass repair shop, you should not pick up your vehicle right away — a good rule of thumb is to wait at least an hour or two so the adhesive can set. In the event that you have to arrange for a mobile windshield repair service to install a new windshield, don't plan on driving your car as soon as the technician completes the job.

Leave the Tape On

When a windshield is installed, large pieces of retention tape are applied to help keep the windshield in place while the adhesive dries completely. While the retention tape may be an eyesore, it is important to leave it alone for at least a few days. If you remove the retention tape too soon, the adhesive may not create a tight seal around the windshield, which could lead to leaks down the road.

Say No to Car Washes

Many people like to have their car washed on a regular basis, but after having a new windshield installed, it is important to avoid car washes for several days. Driving through an automatic car wash shortly after installation can damage the moldings holding the windshield. You are much better off driving a dirty vehicle for a few days instead of risking causing problems.

Be Gentle with Your Vehicle

While the adhesive is drying and a seal is being formed around the new windshield, it is a good idea to be extra gentle with your vehicle. Try to abstain from slamming your car door, and opt to close it with as little force as possible. Likewise, try to avoid driving on roads that are in bad condition or have potholes that could jostle your vehicle.
